I was for 23 years a member-by-affiliation of the
Canadian Translators, Terminologists and
Interpreters Council,
generally recognized as the national body in Canada representing professional
translators, interpreters and terminologists,
and for the same 23 years I was a member-in-good-standing of the
Association of
Translators and Interpreters of Ontario,
and was thus entitled to use the title Certified Translator anywhere in the world
except Québec.
I refuse to apply for membership in the
Québec's professional order for
translators because of its attitude and approach and
therefore I call myself only a
non-certified translator in Québec,
albeit a very good one who,
as in any other part of the world,
is capable of delivering quality translations in a timely manner
even though he lives in Québec near the Ontario border.
